My work as head of kindergarten

As the previous and founding head of the kindergarten at Raffles International School, Dubai, I learned how to lead my team to 'outstanding' results when the KHDA inspected. This 'outstanding' accolade was given to the KG section three times in a row, under my leadership of a team of 40.

I believe that with time, commitment, consistency and determination to establish a quality-driven setting, many nurseries can become outstanding.

The problem I have seen over the 15+ years of working in the UAE, evidenced by my research, is that there are sometimes limiting factors.

1. Under-qualified staff.
2. Lack of updated and consistent professional development.
3. Ill-equipped leaders.
4. Low or no commitment to quality provision.
5. Poorly planned classrooms.
